About this item

As PYZYCKYH states it

  • How it measures: Semiconductor radon sensing (the maker: "advanced semiconductor sensing"), with temperature and humidity
  • First reading: Within 6 hours
  • Reading updates: Every 6 hours; 6-hour, 1-day and 7-day averages
  • Display and app: Built-in display, no app
  • Power: Battery: Plugs directly into a wall outlet for continuous monitoring and recharging, or runs on its built-in 1000 mAh rechargeable battery
  • Units: pCi/L or Bq/m³, switched with the buttons

The RD17 is PYZYCKYH's 3-in-1 indoor monitor: radon by what the maker calls semiconductor sensing, plus temperature and humidity, on a 3.5-inch color screen with an 85 dB+ alert, in a body that plugs straight into a wall outlet or runs from a built-in 1000 mAh rechargeable battery. Its first radon reading comes about 6 hours after start-up. It was not included in C-NRPP's 2024/25 evaluation, so there is no independent result for it either way.

What you get

PYZYCKYH's pages do not list the package contents, so they are not stated by the maker; the product description names the detector's built-in plug and battery and a detachable magnetic mount. The warranty is a 2-year limited warranty from the original date of purchase, covering manufacturing defects, material defects and product failures during normal intended use. It does not cover misuse or improper operation, accidental damage, water damage, unauthorized modifications, or damage from improper storage or transportation.

How it works

In our words, from the maker's documents

PYZYCKYH describes the RD17 as a 3-in-1 indoor monitoring device that measures radon concentration, temperature and humidity, and names its radon sensing only as advanced semiconductor sensing. It does not describe the sensing chamber or say whether air reaches the sensor on its own or is drawn in, so that is not stated by the maker. Its FAQ and placement guide both ask you to keep the air inlet unobstructed.

The first radon reading appears about 6 hours after start-up, and from then on the reading updates every 6 hours. The screen gives three averages to compare: the last 6 hours, 1 day and 7 days. Behind them the RD17 stores up to 385 days of radon history, which PYZYCKYH presents as a way to follow seasonal and longer-term trends without mailing samples to a laboratory.

PYZYCKYH lists a radon range of 0 to 270 pCi/L, or 0 to 9990 Bq/m³. Buttons switch the radon unit between pCi/L and Bq/m³ and the temperature between °F and °C. Readings show on a 3.5-inch high-resolution IPS color screen, with three-color face icons for the radon level. The screen turns off after about a minute to keep a bedroom dark at night, and monitoring carries on while it is off.

PYZYCKYH says the RD17 needs no app or Wi-Fi and is designed for app-free operation, with every radon, temperature and humidity reading shown on the built-in screen. Warnings come from the device itself: an 85 dB+ audible alert, visual warnings and status lights for detection, fault and alarm conditions. PYZYCKYH does not say what radon level sets the alert off or whether you can change it, so the alarm level is not stated by the maker.

Power comes two ways. The RD17 plugs directly into a wall outlet, which runs it continuously and recharges it, or it runs from its built-in 1000 mAh rechargeable battery for room-to-room checks, and a detachable magnetic mount holds it on compatible metal surfaces. PYZYCKYH gives no battery life per charge and no charging time, so neither is stated by the maker. The housing is aluminum alloy, and the detector weighs 4.8 oz (135 g).

Not included in C-NRPP's 2024/25 evaluation

The Canadian National Radon Proficiency Program's 2024/25 comparison of consumer monitors did not include PYZYCKYH RD17. That is a fact about which devices took part, not a finding about this one: no result from that program exists for it either way.

Recalls
No Health Canada recall or advisory names this device.
Peer-reviewed studies
We found no peer-reviewed comparison that names this model.
Notes
  • No Health Canada recall or advisory (radon search, seven notices), no CPSC recall, and no row of C-NRPP's consumer page or 2024/25 report names PYZYCKYH or an RD17 (checked 2026-10-08).

C-NRPP is the Canadian National Radon Proficiency Program. Its 2024/25 results were published in May 2025.

What is in the box

PYZYCKYH's pages do not list the package contents, so they are not stated by the maker; the product description names the detector's built-in plug and battery and a detachable magnetic mount. The warranty is a 2-year limited warranty from the original date of purchase, covering manufacturing defects, material defects and product failures during normal intended use. It does not cover misuse or improper operation, accidental damage, water damage, unauthorized modifications, or damage from improper storage or transportation.

For warranty service, PYZYCKYH asks you to contact its support team with your order information and product details; its technical support page asks for the order number, product model, purchase date and a description of the issue, with photos or videos where they help. PYZYCKYH's site carries the copyright of Dongguan Liyun Technology Co., Ltd., with an address in Dongguan, Guangdong, China.

What it costs to run

There is no lab fee, subscription or app. The RD17 recharges from the wall outlet it plugs into, and its battery is built in; PYZYCKYH gives no power draw, battery life per charge or battery replacement plan, so those are not stated by the maker.

PYZYCKYH says no calibration is needed, and it publishes no sensor lifespan or calibration service. C-NRPP notes that consumer radon monitors cannot be professionally calibrated.

Fit and setup

Who it fits, and how to use it

The fit, then setup and placement as the guidance asks

Who it fits

Good fit if, and look elsewhere if

Good fit if

  • You want radon, temperature and humidity on one screen, on a device PYZYCKYH designed for app-free operation.
  • You want a first radon number on the same day; PYZYCKYH gives about 6 hours.
  • You want a detector that plugs straight into an outlet but can also run from its own battery in another room.
  • You want a loud alert on the device itself, plus up to 385 days of stored history.

Look elsewhere if

  • You want a monitor whose own model was graded in C-NRPP's 2024/25 evaluation; the RD17 was not included.
  • You want to choose the radon level that sets off the alarm; PYZYCKYH does not say whether it can be set.
  • You want phone alerts or charts; PYZYCKYH designed the RD17 for app-free operation, with its readings on its own screen.
  • You need a result for a home sale; check what your state accepts before relying on any consumer monitor.

Setup and placement

4 steps

  1. PYZYCKYH's placement guide lists basements, bedrooms, living rooms, home offices, apartments, RVs and other frequently occupied indoor areas. Put the RD17 in an open area with normal indoor airflow, keep the air inlet unobstructed, place it at about breathing level when you can, and leave it in the same spot while it measures. Keep it away from windows, doors and strong drafts, from fans, air conditioners and vents, out of cabinets, closets and other enclosed spaces, and away from high heat and excessive moisture.
  2. For a basement, the guide says to use the lowest regularly occupied area, keep doors and windows closed as you normally would, and avoid moving the detector during a measurement, adding that longer monitoring periods give a better picture. PYZYCKYH's technical support page notes that radon changes with ventilation, weather, air pressure and indoor airflow, and points you to the longer-term averages rather than a single reading.
  3. The EPA's general guidance for any home radon test is to measure on the lowest lived-in level of the home, in a room used regularly but not the kitchen or bathroom, at least 20 inches above the floor and away from drafts, high heat, high humidity and exterior walls. The EPA says to fix the home at 4 pCi/L or more and to consider fixing between 2 and 4 pCi/L.
  4. C-NRPP's advice for any consumer monitor is to place it in a room occupied at least 4 hours a day, test for a minimum of 3 months, preferably in the heating season, and decide on the long-term average, following up with a long-term test if you have less than 91 days of data. The RD17's longest on-screen average is 7 days, so for that decision keep the readings from its stored history, which reaches back up to 385 days.

How C-NRPP says to use any consumer monitor

  • Leave it in place for at least three months, ideally through the heating season, when indoor radon tends to be highest.
  • Put it in a room someone uses for at least four hours a day.
  • Decide about fixing your home from the long-term average, not a single day or week.
  • If you can only run a monitor for less than 91 days, follow up with a long-term test.

For where any radon test or monitor should sit in a home, see where to place a radon test.

Questions

Questions people ask

6 questions about the PYZYCKYH RD17, answered

Asked about the RD17

How long does the RD17 take to show a radon reading?

About 6 hours after start-up. The reading then updates every 6 hours, and the 1-day and 7-day averages fill in behind it. A 6-hour number is a short-term snapshot, and PYZYCKYH's own support page points to the longer-term averages instead of a single reading.

Does the RD17 need an app or Wi-Fi?

No. PYZYCKYH designed it for app-free operation, and the radon, temperature and humidity readings are read on its 3.5-inch screen. PYZYCKYH describes no phone alerts; the warnings it lists are the 85 dB+ audible alert, the visual warnings and the status lights on the device.

Does it have to stay plugged in?

No. It can plug into a wall outlet for continuous monitoring, run from the built-in rechargeable battery for portable checks, or sit on a metal surface with the magnetic mount. PYZYCKYH does not say how long the 1000 mAh battery lasts on a charge.

At what radon level does the alarm sound?

PYZYCKYH does not say. Its product page lists the 85 dB+ audible alert, visual warnings, status lights and three-color face icons, but publishes no threshold for any of them. The EPA's guidance is to fix a home at 4 pCi/L or more and to consider fixing between 2 and 4 pCi/L, so check the RD17's averages against those figures yourself.

Is the RD17 C-NRPP approved?

It was not included in C-NRPP's 2024/25 consumer monitor evaluation, so there is no C-NRPP result for it either way.

How much history does it keep?

Up to 385 days of radon history, reviewed on the screen alongside the 6-hour, 1-day and 7-day averages. PYZYCKYH describes no app and no way to export the history, so for a long-term decision write down the readings you want to keep.
